MILITARY OFFICER’S WIFE LAMENTS SILENCE OVER BRIGADIER’S DEATH, SAYS NIGERIA HAS LOST RESPECT FOR FALLEN SOLDIERS

A military spouse, known as Everything Woman on TikTok, has criticised what she described as Nigeria’s growing indifference to the deaths of military personnel, following the reported killing of Brigadier Uba in Maiduguri.
In a viral video posted on Thursday, she said she had spent hours online “waiting to see something that will give me hope,” but was met with what she called a disturbing public silence over the incident.
“Tell me why, till now, everywhere is just quiet like a chicken died?” she asked. “When I was younger, if a soldier fell, communities and even states closed.
Because 10,000 men would bury that soldier… Now, we lose a Brigadier General and the whole nation is silent as if nothing happened.”
She criticised not only the government and the public but also military families for failing to speak out.
“Even military wives are quiet. If you stay quiet, it will affect you. Our government is quiet,” she said. “How have we got to the point where they kill a Brigadier General and nothing happens?”
Reflecting on her own sacrifices as a military spouse, she said her only hope had been that her husband, currently serving in the armed forces, would retire after 35 years and return safely.
“Every birthday missed, every anniversary celebrated alone, every night slept alone… was because I believed one day I would have him back,” she said emotionally.
“Now it seems he might serve forever. He might just die like a bird.”
The video has stirred mixed reactions online, with some users expressing support and calling for greater recognition of soldiers’ sacrifices, while others urged restraint pending official confirmation of Brigadier Uba’s death.
The military has yet to issue a public statement addressing the video or the claims raised.
