BANDITS ABDUCT AT LEAST EIGHT IN KANO VILLAGE RAID AS FEAR GRIPS COMMUNITIES

At least eight persons have been abducted by suspected bandits in Biresawa village, Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State, following a night raid between 11pm and 12 midnight on Monday.
According to a reliable source, two men and six women were whisked away, and their whereabouts remain unknown.
One of the affected residents, Kabiru Usman, said the attackers infiltrated the village through neighbouring Tsundu.
“They came on foot, armed with guns. They kidnapped my wife, Umma; my 17-year-old daughter, Fati; my brother’s wife, and two other women,” he said.
We tried to stop them, but our weapons were no match for theirs.”
He added that villagers had contacted the security agencies after receiving reports that the attackers were advancing toward the area.
In a separate report, bandits also invaded Sarmawa, Yan Chibi, and Gano villages within the same LGA.
An eyewitness from Yan Chibi said about 50 armed bandits on motorcycles stormed the area, shooting indiscriminately and abducting several people, mostly women.
“No lives have been reported lost, but I can confirm that over 10 people were taken,” the source said.
A member of the local vigilante group confirmed that residents had earlier alerted them about suspicious movement. A pursuit was launched after the abductions but was unsuccessful as the assailants reportedly crossed into Katsina State.
He added that locals now live in constant fear due to recurring attacks in nearby hanono and Bagwai LGAs, with many families abandoning their homes at night to avoid kidnappings.
Several villages in the area have reportedly been deserted, with residents seeking refuge in Faruruwa town or relocating to urban centres.
The Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, had not responded to calls at the time of filing this report.
This latest attack comes weeks after bandits raided Yan Kwada village in Faruruwa, abducting five women including nursing mothers shortly after a military operation in the area resulted in the killing of 19 suspected bandits.
Security remains a growing concern across rural Kano communities as abductions persist.
