NASARAWA GOVERNOR SULE PRESENTS N517.5BN ‘BUDGET OF STRATEGIC CONSOLIDATION’ FOR 2026 TO STATE ASSEMBLY

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, on Wednesday presented a ₦517.5 billion budget proposal for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly in Lafia.

The budget, themed “Budget of Strategic Consolidation,” is aimed at sustaining ongoing infrastructure projects, boosting job creation through industrialisation and agriculture, improving healthcare and education, and strengthening urban renewal and environmental management.

Governor Sule commended Speaker Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau and other lawmakers for their consistent support in passing previous budgets.

“The 2026 Budget seeks to consolidate ongoing infrastructure projects to enhance connectivity and economic competitiveness, expand job creation through industrialization and agricultural productivity, improve basic healthcare and education services, and intensify urban renewal efforts,” Sule stated.

Total Budget: ₦517.5bn, Recurrent Expenditure: ₦212.79bn (41.12%), Capital Expenditure: ₦304.75bn (58.88%)

Economic Sector: ₦221.84bn, Social Sector: ₦170.92bn, Administrative Sector: ₦108.70bn, Law and Justice: ₦16.09bn

Infrastructure – ₦157.80bn (30.49%), Education – ₦92.91bn (17.95%), Governance, Security & General Administration – ₦142.96bn (27.62%), Health – ₦37.19bn (7.19%), Agriculture & Water Resources – ₦31.85bn (6.15%), Environment & Community Development – ₦28.32bn (5.42%)

He further disclosed the establishment of six strategic agencies aimed at modernisation, institutional strengthening, economic growth, public safety, and regulation. These agencies include the Nasarawa State Fire & Rescue Service Agency, Nasarawa State Education Trust Fund (NASETFund), Institute of Leather & Science Technology in Doma, and the Nasarawa State Multi-Door Court House (NSMDC).

Responding, Speaker Jatau assured the governor of the Assembly’s commitment to timely and diligent passage of the appropriation bill.

He stressed that compliance with budgetary provisions by Ministries, Departments and Agencies is “non-negotiable,” urging public officials to uphold efficiency and accountability.

Jatau also called on residents to continue promoting peace, unity, and mutual respect in support of the state’s development agenda.

The budget now awaits legislative review and approval.
