The Delta State Police Command has arrested one suspect and launched a manhunt for another in connection with the gruesome killing of retired Justice Ifeoma Okogwu.
In a statement released on Sunday in Asaba, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed that the incident occurred on November 24, 2025, after the late judge’s brother discovered her lifeless body in her sitting room. She was reportedly found with her hands, legs, and mouth bound.
Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer of ‘A’ Division, Asaba, led operatives to the scene where the body was evacuated to a morgue for autopsy.
“One suspect, Lucky Matthew, has been arrested, while the principal suspect, identified as Godwin Vanem, is currently at large,” Edafe said.
Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, the case has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.
Preliminary findings suggest that Vanem is strongly suspected of carrying out the act before fleeing the residence. A manhunt has been launched to apprehend him.
CP Abaniwonda has expressed condolences to the family and assured them that justice will be served. He appealed to members of the public to provide any useful information that may aid the investigation.
In a separate development, the command arrested two suspects and rescued seven boys allegedly held against their will by an internet fraud syndicate known as Hustlers Kingdom in Warri.
Edafe revealed that the police acted following a complaint received on November 17. One of the victims reported being lured to the apartment and subjected to daily flogging whenever the fraud syndicate failed to secure paying clients.
“Operatives of QRS swiftly stormed the premises, rescued seven boys, and arrested two individuals who referred to themselves as ‘chairmen’,” Edafe said.
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
