The Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, Shetima Mohammed, has imposed a total ban on the burning of used tyres during crossover night activities marking the New Year celebrations across the state.
The directive was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday in Lafia by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, who said the ban takes immediate effect.
According to the statement, the police commissioner has directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers in the state to ensure strict enforcement of the order, warning that violators will be arrested and prosecuted in line with the law.
Mohammed explained that the ban was introduced to safeguard critical government and private infrastructure from damage, prevent environmental pollution, and ensure the free flow of traffic and overall public safety during the festivities.
He also cautioned vulcanisers and tyre dealers across the state to properly dispose of used tyres or remove them from their premises at the close of business each day to prevent unauthorised access by members of the public.
The police commissioner further appealed to parents and guardians to advise their wards against burning tyres or engaging in any unlawful acts during the New Year celebrations.
Reaffirming the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order, Mohammed assured residents that adequate security measures had been put in place to guarantee a peaceful, safe and hitch-free New Year celebration across Nasarawa State.
