ATIKU SAYS NO PRESIDENTIAL ASPIRANT WILL STEP DOWN IN ADC

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that no aspirant will withdraw from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential race ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement on Tuesday, issued by his media adviser Paul Ibe, Abubakar accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to intimidate and weaken opposition parties ahead of next year’s polls. He emphasized that all qualified aspirants would “present themselves freely” when the ADC begins its selection process.
Abubakar’s remarks come amid reports that he was under pressure to step aside for a southern aspirant. He said opposition leaders have rallied behind the ADC to build a credible alternative to the ruling party, and warned that calls for him to step down would serve “authoritarian ambition” and undermine democracy.
He reaffirmed that the ADC is committed to “an open, transparent, and competitive process” for selecting its presidential flagbearer, stressing that inclusiveness—not coercion—is central to the party’s democratic principles.
