VISA REVOCATIONS HIT 100,000 IN US AFTER TRUMP’S RETURN

The United States has revoked over 100,000 visas since President Donald Trump assumed office on an anti-migrant platform, marking a record number for a single year, the State Department said Monday.
“The Trump administration places the highest priority on protecting American citizens and safeguarding national sovereignty,” State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said.
Since Trump’s second inauguration on January 20, 2025, more than 100,000 visas have been revoked two and a half times the number cancelled in 2024 under President Joe Biden.
The State Department noted that “thousands” of the revocations were linked to criminal activity, including offenses such as assault and drunk driving.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio has also publicly highlighted the cancellation of visas for students who participated in protests against Israel.

Rubio invoked a McCarthy-era law that permits the United States to bar entry to foreigners deemed opposed to U.S. foreign policy, although some high-profile targets successfully challenged the deportation orders in court.
The State Department reported that 8,000 of the revoked visas involved students.
The Trump administration has also intensified visa vetting, including measures to review the social media activity of applicants.
The visa revocations form part of a broader campaign of mass deportations, enforced aggressively through a surge of federal agents.
Last month, the Department of Homeland Security reported that the Trump administration has deported over 605,000 people, while an additional 2.5 million left the country voluntarily.
