Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a leading figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has expressed optimism that the emerging alliance between the ADC and the Obidient Movement can unseat the ruling APC in the 2027 general elections.

Odigie-Oyegun made the assertion on Monday in Benin City, Edo State, during a reception held in honour of members of the Obidient Movement who recently defected en masse to the ADC.

The development follows the recent alignment of the former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, with the ADC, a move that has further strengthened the growing coalition.

Addressing the gathering, Odigie-Oyegun said the decision of the Obidient Movement to join the ADC underscores a rising determination among Nigerians—particularly the youth—to drive political change and national renewal.

According to him, the quality and commitment of new entrants into the party reinforce his belief that a new Nigeria is achievable.

“The calibre and dedication of those joining our party strengthen my confidence that a new Nigeria is within reach,” he said.

Reflecting on recent events, Odigie-Oyegun recalled the entry of media entrepreneur Dele Momodu into the party and described it as a significant boost. He noted that the large turnout of young people from the Obidient Movement demonstrated a readiness among the youth to engage actively in nation-building and meaningful political participation.

He described the mass defection as a calculated and strategic decision by the Obidient Movement to take part directly in the struggle for political and social transformation.

“You have chosen to join this struggle by aligning with the ADC, and I am pleased. From the very beginning of this coalition, I have been convinced that we are on the right path,” he stated.

Odigie-Oyegun further argued that widespread dissatisfaction with governance at both the national and Edo State levels should serve as a rallying point for collective political action.

“Our mission is clear: we have a country to rescue. Through the ADC, we can turn the dream of a new Nigeria into reality,” he added.
