EKITI GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION: INEC LIST SHOWS PDP WITHOUT CANDIDATE
By Aishat Momoh. O.

A preliminary list of candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the forthcoming Ekiti State governorship election has revealed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) does not have a candidate in the race.
The document, titled Final List of Candidates for the Ekiti governorship election, contains the names of candidates and their running mates sponsored by various political parties. However, a review of the list shows that the PDP, one of Nigeria’s major political parties, is conspicuously absent.
The list includes candidates from parties such as the All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Young Progressives Party (YPP), Action Democratic Party (ADP), New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), and several others contesting both the governorship and deputy governorship positions.
INEC also detailed candidates’ ages, genders, and educational qualifications in line with electoral guidelines. The absence of a PDP candidate has sparked reactions among political observers, given the party’s historical presence and influence in Ekiti State politics.
