AWUJALE STOOL: NOMINEES SUMMONED BY DSS IN IJEBU-ODE
By Aishat Momoh. O.

Nominees vying for the revered Awujale of Ijebuland stool have been directed to report to the Department of State Services (DSS) office in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, for security screening.
The directive was contained in a statement issued in Ijebu-Ode by the Secretary to the Awujale Kingmakers, Ayotunde Ola-Odulaja.
According to the statement, the invitation is aimed at conducting proper security checks on the nominees to ensure that individuals of questionable character do not emerge as the next Awujale.
The letter informed the nominees that an earlier scheduled meet-and-greet at the Aafin Awujale had been cancelled and replaced with the DSS screening.
“We write to formally inform you that the meet-and-greet earlier scheduled for this morning at the Aafin Awujale has been cancelled. Accordingly, the Awujale nominees are hereby directed to report to the Department of State Services (DSS) office located at State Security Service (SSS), along NTA Road, beside the State Psychiatric Hospital, off Igbeba Road, Ijebu-Ode,” the letter stated.
The nominees were instructed to report promptly by 11:00 a.m.
“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this change may cause. Kindly ensure that all concerned nominees are punctual and comply strictly with this directive,” the statement added.
The development comes amid a suspension of the final selection process by the Chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area, Dare Alebiosu.
The local government had halted the process following the alleged receipt of petitions, security reports and complaints from concerned individuals, including allegations of irregularities and inducement in the selection exercise.
The decision was communicated in a letter dated January 20, 2026, addressed to the Awujale Kingmakers’ Council and signed by the Secretary to the Local Government Chairman, Oke Adebanjo.
According to the letter, the action was taken in line with the Obas and Chiefs Law of Ogun State, 2021, which empowers the government to nullify an appointment if it is deemed necessary in the interest of peace, order and good governance.
