US IS THE ECONOMIC ENGINE OF THE PLANET – TRUMPS

President Donald Trump on Wednesday proclaimed the United States the “economic engine of the planet” as he addressed global business leaders at the 2026 World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.
Trump’s appearance came a day after marking the first anniversary of his return to the White House, and amid heightened diplomatic tension over his administration’s controversial stance on Greenland.
“I come to this year’s World Economic Forum with very phenomenal greetings from America,” Trump told an audience of CEOs and policymakers.
Reflecting on his first year back in office, the US president declared that the American economy was experiencing an unprecedented turnaround.
“After one year back at the White House, our economy is booming, productivity is surging, investment is soaring, and incomes are rising. Inflation is being defeated,” he said, adding that the country’s previously “open border is closed and impenetrable.”
Trump described the current recovery as “the fastest and most dramatic economic turnaround in the country’s history,” contrasting it sharply with what he called economic mismanagement under the previous administration.
“Under the Biden administration, the economy was plagued by the nightmare of stagflation, low growth and high inflation, a recipe for misery and failure,” he said.
According to Trump, his policies have reversed that trend, citing low inflation and strong growth figures.
“Over the past three months, core inflation has been about 1.6 per cent, while fourth-quarter growth is projected at 4.6 per cent, far greater than anyone predicted,” he stated.
The president also claimed that the US had secured nearly $18 trillion in investments, a figure he said could approach $20 trillion when final numbers are released.
“The United States economy is on pace to grow at double the rate projected by the IMF,” Trump said, adding that America’s economic performance directly impacts global prosperity.
“When America booms, the world booms. When we go down, the world goes down with us,” he declared.
Trump said he was surprised by the speed of the economic rebound, noting that he had expected stronger growth to take longer to materialise.
Turning his attention to Europe, Trump offered a pointed critique, while insisting he meant no offence.
“I love Europe and want to see Europe do well, but it is not heading in the right direction,” he said, suggesting that some parts of the continent had become “unrecognisable.”
Trump arrived in Switzerland after Air Force One was briefly forced to turn back due to a minor electrical issue, causing a delay. He had earlier mocked European leaders ahead of his appearance at the forum.
His Davos visit is expected to include bilateral meetings with European leaders as well as further remarks on global economic and geopolitical issues.
