The Nigerian Army has successfully freed a man abducted in Taraba State after sustained search-and-rescue operations.

The rescue was confirmed by the Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa.

In a statement released on Wednesday in Jalingo, Uwa called on residents to continue supporting military efforts by sharing timely and credible intelligence with security agencies.

According to the statement, troops deployed to Dogon-Gawa in Takum Local Government Area rescued the victim on January 27, 2026, following intensive operations across the brigade’s area of responsibility.

“Troops engaged in ongoing search-and-rescue missions sighted and recovered a man who had been abandoned in the bush by his abductors. He was later identified as Mr. Ghali,” the commander said.

Further investigations revealed that Mr. Ghali and another individual, Mr. Simon Oluchukwu, were kidnapped on January 11, 2026, at Gbise Village, Mbayonga, in Benue State. Their driver was reportedly killed during the incident.

Uwa explained that after his rescue, Mr. Ghali was debriefed, given medical attention and reunited with his family.

He praised the troops for their determination, bravery and professionalism, assuring that military operations in the area would be intensified to secure the release of the second victim and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The statement, signed by the Acting Brigade Spokesperson, Lieutenant Umar Mohammad, noted that the successful operation highlights the gallantry and commitment of 6 Brigade personnel to safeguarding lives and property.

“The Brigade remains steadfast in its resolve to eliminate criminal elements and restore lasting peace in the region,” Uwa added.
