The Osun State Local Government Service Commission has announced the redeployment of five Heads of Local Government Administration (HLAs) to new duty posts, as tensions over control of council areas in the state escalate.
A letter detailing the movements, dated January 26, 2025, and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Mudashir Oyedeji, was obtained by The Media in Osogbo on Tuesday. While the Commission did not state reasons for the redeployments, one of the councils affected—Boripe Local Government—is the hometown of former governor Adegboyega Oyetola.
According to the letter, Yakubu Adekunle Oni, previously serving at Irewole North East Local Council Development Authority, has been transferred to Boripe Local Government Area. In total, all five HLAs were moved from their Local Council Development Authority postings to main council areas.
The letter reads in part:
“I wish to inform you that the Local Government Service Commission has approved the deployment of the underlisted Heads of Local Government:
-
Bolaji Wasiu Ayoola – Ife South West LCDA → Ola-Oluwa LGA
-
Emmanuel Oluwole Ademokoya – Oriade South LCDA → Atakumosa East LGA
-
Adebisi Lateef Kayode – Ede East LCDA → Oriade LGA
-
Yakubu Adekunle Oni – Irewole North East LCDA → Boripe LGA
-
Isaac Tope Akinwumi – Egbedore South LCDA → Ife East Central LCDA
“The officers affected by this deployment are to resume duties with immediate effect.”
The redeployments come amid a political standoff between the Osun State Government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) over control of local councils. The move drew varied reactions online: supporters of Governor Ademola Adeleke defended the transfers as a legitimate exercise of the state’s authority over civil servants, while APC loyalists accused the state government of attempting to wrest control of councils from elected officials.

The dispute traces back to 2022 when Adeleke was accused of removing APC-elected chairmen and councilors from office. Osun APC has since claimed that these officials were unlawfully ousted and that the Court of Appeal, Akure Division, reinstated them on February 10, 2025. The party is reportedly seeking a court ruling to determine the official start of the officers’ tenure.
Governor Adeleke, in a recent state broadcast, asserted that the tenure of APC-elected chairmen and councilors ended on October 25, 2025, further fuelling the ongoing political tussle over local government control in Osun State.
