STEALING EFCC EXHIBITS: EFCC ARRAIGNS MAN IN LAGOS COURT
By Aishat Momoh. O.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos Zonal Directorate 1, has arraigned one Philip Patrick Jordan before the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, over allegations of stealing and unlawfully dealing with property subject to forfeiture.
Jordan was arraigned on Thursday, January 29, 2026, before Justice Rahman Oshodi on a two-count charge bordering on stealing and dealing with forfeited property without authorisation, contrary to Section 32(1) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004.
According to the charge, the defendant allegedly dealt with and dishonestly took possession of an iPhone 14 Pro, said to be an exhibit under a final forfeiture order to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
One of the counts stated that Jordan, on October 15, 2025, in Lagos, dealt with the iPhone 14 Pro without due authorisation from the EFCC, while the second count accused him of dishonestly taking the same phone, property of the Federal Government, for his personal use.
In her opening address, prosecution counsel, Zeenat Atiku, told the court that the defendant had visited the EFCC office on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, on an errand and allegedly stole the phone from the exhibit room.
She further informed the court that Jordan initially denied the allegation until closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showing him committing the offence was played to him.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to both counts when they were read in court.
Following the plea, the prosecution requested a trial date, stating its readiness to call all witnesses in one day, and urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional facility.
However, defence counsel, K. C. Onyegbule, told the court that he had just been briefed on the matter and made an oral application for bail on behalf of the defendant.
Justice Oshodi declined the oral bail application and directed the defence to file a formal bail application. The court subsequently adjourned the case to March 3, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
