Chief of Staff to former President Muhammadu Buhari, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, has stated that cabals exist in every government and around every president.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, in an interview monitored by DAILY POST on Monday, Gambari explained that some cabals often tell the president not what he needs to know, but what he wants to hear.

Reflecting on Buhari’s administration, Gambari said:
“A president’s effectiveness depends on the people around him—those whose loyalty puts the country’s interest above personal gain. Every president has a cabal of sorts—you might call it an inner circle or caucus—made up of people with shared experiences, perceptions of the future, and trusted connections.
“Unfortunately, some cabals feed the president only what he wants to hear rather than the truth. They exist in every government; some are more influential, while others remain more loyal to the principal.
“Sometimes, cabals are given more power in perception than in reality. From my time in the Buhari administration, I observed that these individuals understood their limits and did not overstep because everyone recognized Buhari’s creative stubbornness, reminiscent of the late Obafemi Awolowo.”
