Proceedings resume on Monday in London in the corruption and bribery trial of former Nigerian Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, at Southwark Crown Court.

Alison-Madueke has denied multiple charges linked to alleged misconduct during her tenure overseeing Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. Prosecutors, however, contend that she received cash payments and luxury benefits in exchange for exercising influence over lucrative energy contracts.

The prosecution alleges that the former minister abused her office to secure personal gains, claims she has consistently rejected.

The case is being closely watched both in Nigeria and internationally, with analysts describing it as a significant test of accountability within the global energy industry and among public officials.

Our correspondent, Juliana Olayinka, is at Southwark Crown Court in London, where further developments in the trial are expected as proceedings continue.
