The vibrant Kabanci water display has captivated audiences at the ongoing Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival in Argungu, highlighting the rich riverine heritage of Kebbi State.
Kabanci, a traditional water skill passed down for centuries by the people of the old Kabi Kingdom, demonstrates how local warriors and fishermen historically mastered river navigation and survival techniques.

During the performance, participants showcased deep-water diving, underwater maneuvering, canoe driving, and traditional fish-catching methods, reflecting how the community once relied on the river for both livelihood and defense.
The presentation also featured a Durbar-style procession, symbolizing the strength of Argungu’s ancient army, alongside displays of traditional occupations such as blacksmithing, which continue to be central to the area’s cultural identity.
The Kabanci display has continued to attract large crowds and remains one of the major cultural highlights of this year’s festival.
