Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has sympathised with traders and families affected by the recent fire outbreak at Singer Market in Kano, describing the incident as a tragic blow to livelihoods.

In a message posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday, Atiku said his thoughts were with those impacted and expressed solidarity with the victims.

“My heart goes out to every trader and family affected by the devastating fire at Singer Market in Kano. The pain of losing one’s source of livelihood in such a tragic way is immeasurable, and I stand in solidarity with all who have been affected,” he wrote.

He also praised the Kano State Government for its swift intervention and support for those affected, noting that such efforts provide hope during a difficult time.

The former vice president called on authorities to broaden relief initiatives to ensure full rehabilitation of victims and to strengthen preventive measures to protect markets from future disasters.

“I urge that these interventions be scaled up to guarantee comprehensive relief, rehabilitation, and stronger safeguards for our markets. In moments like this, leadership must turn compassion into sustained action,” he added.

The fire at Singer Market has left numerous traders grappling with heavy losses, sparking renewed calls for coordinated assistance and improved safety standards in public marketplaces.
