Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully disrupted several high-profile drug trafficking operations across Nigeria in recent weeks.
In Lagos, the agency intercepted 1.10 kilograms of cocaine concealed in sacks of processed cassava granules, popularly known as Garri, destined for London on a Virgin Atlantic flight. The shipment was traced to Olashupo Michael Oladimeji, a convicted drug kingpin and CEO of Dimeji Express Logistics, currently serving a five-year jail term at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre for a previous 17.90kg cocaine export case. NDLEA investigations revealed that Oladimeji orchestrated the export scheme from prison, directing a staff member, Adedeji Yusuf Gbolahan, to present the consignment at the Lagos airport.

In a separate case, a China-based Nigerian businessman, Ibeanu Vincent Chukwudulue, along with two Angolan nationals, Mbandu Martins Makiadi and Ngoma Wilson Fernando, were intercepted at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, and Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano. The suspects excreted a total of 236 wraps of cocaine under NDLEA supervision. Ibeanu, 34, ingested 52 pellets weighing 735.95 grams, while Makiadi and Fernando excreted 76 wraps (920 grams) and 108 pellets (1.33 kilograms), respectively. The suspects claimed they were recruited by a Luanda-based dealer who promised $3,000 each upon successful delivery of the drugs to Turkey.
NDLEA also foiled an attempt by 44-year-old estate surveyor Adelaja Taiwo Adetayo to export 1.70 kilograms of skunk hidden in five jerry cans to the UK. The consignment, presented by cargo agent Mustapha Quddus Opeyemi, led to the subsequent arrest of Adetayo in Lagos.
In Abuja, officers intercepted a children’s toy guitar concealing 59.2 grams of Canadian Loud cannabis, resulting in the arrest of its owner, Henry Onuma. In Lagos, NDLEA raided a 4-bedroom duplex at Lekki, uncovering 13.2 kilograms of Colorado (synthetic cannabis) and precursor chemicals linked to nitrous oxide consignments destined for Edo State.
In Ibadan, a notorious female drug dealer, Oluwayemisi Bunmi, 45, was arrested with 1.189 kilograms of Colos, 320 grams of methamphetamine, ₦2,975,000 in cash, and two vehicles. Additionally, in Kwara State, 105,400 tramadol pills were seized from a suspect, Kamilu Abdullahi. In Edo State, NDLEA recovered 563.5 kilograms of skunk from five suspects during a raid on the Yoruba Camp in Olumoye Forest, Ovia North East LGA.
Alongside enforcement, NDLEA officers continued their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization campaigns in schools, worship centers, workplaces, and communities nationwide, including sessions at Anglican Grammar School (Ogbomoso), Government Day Secondary School (Yola), and Ajumoni Senior Secondary School (Mushin, Lagos).
Chairman and CEO of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers across all Commands, including MAKIA, MMIA, NAIA, Lagos, Edo, Kwara, FCT, and Oyo, for their professionalism and urged continued focus on both drug supply and demand reduction efforts.
