Barely six days after a truck accident killed six people along the Old Toll Gate section of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, another crash on the same route has claimed three more lives.

The Media reported on Sunday that the latest incident occurred in the early hours at the Ifo Railway Crossing section of the expressway.

In a statement, Afolabi Odunsi, spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, said the crash happened around 4:20 a.m.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the accident involved a white Volvo commercial vehicle with registration number AYE 977 XA and was reportedly caused by excessive speeding.

He explained that seven people were involved in the crash, with three confirmed dead, one sustaining serious injuries, and three others escaping unhurt.

“Of the seven individuals—five males and two females—three lost their lives, one female suffered multiple severe fractures, and three others walked away without injuries,” he said.

Odunsi added that FRSC officers arrived at the scene around 6:00 a.m., achieving a response time of approximately 10 minutes from the moment the incident was reported.

“The injured victim was transported by family members to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi for specialized treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were released to their families for burial arrangements,” he added.

He said emergency responders quickly cleared the wreckage to restore traffic on the highway.

“The FRSC, working alongside the Nigeria Police Force and the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, successfully removed the obstruction to ensure smooth traffic flow on the ABK/LAG route,” Odunsi stated.

He added that the Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, cautioned motorists against speeding and reckless driving, especially at night and in critical areas such as railway crossings.

“Motorists are strongly advised to observe speed limits to prevent further loss of lives,” the statement emphasized.

The Media had reported last Wednesday that an oil-laden truck lost control along the Old Toll Gate section of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, colliding with two vehicles and several bystanders, an accident that claimed six lives and left multiple people injured.

In response to the incident, the Ogun State Government ordered the removal of roadside traders and makeshift structures along the expressway to help prevent future accidents.
