TINUBU: NAIRA TO STRENGTHEN TO ₦1,000 PER DOLLAR IN COMING WEEKS

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed optimism that the naira will strengthen to ₦1,000 per dollar in the coming weeks.
He made the statement on Tuesday while addressing participants at the Renewed Hope Ambassadors Summit in Abuja.
Tinubu also revealed that the Central Bank of Nigeria stepped in on Monday to stabilize the currency by withdrawing excess dollars from the market.
He stated that his administration’s monetary policy reforms are beginning to deliver positive results.

“In fact, if not for the Central Bank of Nigeria’s intervention yesterday (Monday), we would have reached ₦1,000 to the dollar within weeks, not months,” he said.
Meanwhile, The media reports that the naira weakened on Tuesday, trading at 1,355.3745 at the official market and ₦1,370 per dollar at the parallel market.
Also speaking after the 304th Monetary Policy Committee meeting on Tuesday, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Olayemi Cardoso, disclosed that Nigeria’s gross external reserves rose to a 13-year high of $50.45 billion as of February 16, 2026.
