The General Officer Commanding, 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Bemgha Koughna, has pledged stronger collaboration with journalists in Sokoto State to enhance security efforts and strengthen public trust.
He gave the assurance on Thursday in Sokoto while receiving executive members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Sokoto State Council, during a courtesy visit to the Division’s headquarters.
Major General Koughna underscored the vital role of the media in shaping public understanding of security operations, noting that timely and accurate dissemination of information is essential to counter misinformation and sustain peace in the state.
He apologised for the delay in hosting the journalists since assuming office, attributing it to pressing official responsibilities.
“I want to assure you that under my leadership, this Division is committed to fostering strong collaboration with journalists, particularly the Correspondents’ Chapel,” he said.
He reaffirmed the Division’s commitment to maintaining open communication and building a professional partnership with journalists across the state.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Ankeli Emmanuel, congratulated the GOC on his appointment and pledged the chapel’s readiness to collaborate closely with the Division in promoting a safer society.
Emmanuel urged the Division to provide timely information to journalists to ensure balanced and accurate reporting of military activities.
He also called on the Division to regularly invite the chapel to official events, enabling comprehensive media coverage.
The visit highlights renewed efforts to strengthen civil-military relations and enhance collaboration between the Army and the media in Sokoto State.
