The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has called on candidates who paid more than the approved fees for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to report any offending centres, providing credible evidence.

The board warned that any Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre found guilty of overcharging or engaging in other sharp practices would be sanctioned.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, following reports suggesting that the board had increased its registration fees.

JAMB clarified that the approved fees remain ₦7,200 for UTME only (without mock), ₦8,700 for UTME with mock, and ₦5,700 for Direct Entry.

The board appealed to candidates who may have paid above the officially approved registration fees to promptly report the affected centres, providing credible evidence.

It said such reports would allow the board to investigate and take swift disciplinary action against any centre found to be overcharging or involved in sharp practices.

The statement clarified that the approved fees remain ₦5,700 for Direct Entry, ₦7,200 for UTME only (without mock), and ₦8,700 for UTME with mock.

The sale of e-PINs for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) closed on Thursday, while registration at accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres for candidates who have already obtained their e-PINs will end on Saturday, February 28.

As of February 17, JAMB reported that more than 1.5 million candidates had registered across the country.

In its statement issued on Friday, the board reaffirmed that its registration fees have remained unchanged since 2019.

Despite rising operational costs, JAMB explained that it has maintained the same fee structure since 2018, when the Federal Executive Council approved a reduction in the UTME application fee from ₦5,000 to ₦3,500, which took effect from the 2019 registration exercise.

The board provided a breakdown of the charges as follows: application fee – ₦3,500; reading text – ₦1,000; CBT centre registration service charge – ₦700; CBT centre UTME service charge – ₦1,500; bank charges – ₦500; and CBT mock-UTME centre charge – ₦1,500.

JAMB also advised parents and candidates to be cautious of individuals, agents, and centres attempting to mislead or exploit them into paying more than the officially approved fees.

The statement added that the board’s attention had been drawn to a publication alleging an increase in its registration fees, describing the claim as false, misleading, and completely unfounded.

The board urged members of the public, especially prospective candidates and their parents or guardians, to ignore the publication and rely solely on official information released through its verified platforms and advertisements.

It also advised candidates to carefully study the board’s official advertisement to avoid being misled or exploited by dishonest individuals or centres.
