NIN MANDATORY FOR ALL SSCE 2026 CANDIDATE- NIMC

HOTJIST NEWS
The National Identity Management Commission has given a final message to parents and guardians, reminding them that every candidate must have a National Identification Number.
This is done to make sure everything runs smoothly during the 2026 Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations. The message was shared on the commission‘s official X page on Friday.
It said that the NIN is not just useful anymore, but an important tool needed for school enrollment, applying for scholarships, and other government services.
The commission wrote, “Dear Nigerian parent, your child needs an NIN. The NIN is now important for school registrations, exams, scholarships, and many other government benefits.“
To make long–distance travel easier, NIMC has spread out its operations using the new “Ward Enrollment Strategy.”
The commission said that registration points are now nearer to communities so that students can register early, right at the local level, before the exam registration deadlines.
The advisory told people, “NIMSE Word Enrollment is happening near you. Find the closest Word Enrollment Centre and start the process.“
Recognising the urgency, NIMC has provided digital and telephonic tools to help parents find their nearest center without hassle.
This is part of the “Assured Identity” mandate aimed at providing every Nigerian child with a unique digital footprint.
“To know the closest Word Enrollment Centre to you, you can check our website www.nimse.gov.ng or you can call the toll-free line on the screen. NIMSE, providing assured identity”, the NIMC added.
According to the commission’s guidelines for 2026, minors (children under 16) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who already possesses a valid NIN.
Parents are encouraged to bring original birth certificates or statutory declarations of age to the ward centers.
The commission further clarified that the process remains free of charge at all official centers, warning the public against patronizing unauthorized agents.
