WIKE REAFFIRMS COOPERATION WITH FCT COUNCIL CHAIRMEN

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has pledged to collaborate with the six newly elected Area Council chairmen, setting aside political differences.
In the February 21 elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) won five of the six chairmanship seats across the FCT’s Area Councils, securing victories in Abuja Municipal, Abaji, Bwari, Kwali, and Kuje, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) clinched the chairmanship seat in Gwagwalada.
Wike made the remarks on Wednesday in Abuja, during a visit by the council leaders to his office to receive their certificates of return ahead of their June swearing-in.
Wike described the partnership he envisions between his administration and the incoming council officials as a “rainbow coalition.”
He said, “Congratulations to all the newly elected chairmen. You have earned this opportunity through hard work, and we are grateful for the chance to serve alongside you.”
The minister emphasized that effective governance depends on collaboration across party lines, noting that the FCT Administration has always engaged stakeholders regardless of political affiliation.

“No matter the political party, what matters most is that we work together.”
“Since I assumed office as minister, we have always worked together across the city, and that collaboration is why we continue to achieve results,” Wike said.
He acknowledged that while candidates aligned with President Bola Tinubu received government support during the elections, officials from other parties who share similar goals would also be included in the administration’s plans.
“Candidates who supported Mr. President received our backing, and we thank God for their victory. Even those from other parties who support the President will be part of what we call a rainbow coalition in the FCT,” he added.
Wike urged the chairmen-elect to prepare diligently for their new roles and assured them of the administration’s full cooperation once they assume office.
He also commended the outgoing council leaders for their service and wished them success in their future endeavors.
“Once you are sworn in, we will start working together to advance the councils. The support you received from Mr. President comes with the responsibility to deliver good governance to the people,” he said.
