The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Sly Ezeokenwa, has explained the rationale behind the party’s alliance with President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In an interview with Arise Television on Monday, Ezeokenwa stated that an Igbo presidency is not achievable without a national coalition.

He emphasized that APGA seeks alliances because an Igbo candidate alone cannot realistically secure the presidency without support from either the Northern or Western regions of the country.

He further explained that APGA aligns ideologically with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) through their shared commitment to progressivism.

“Political parties operate based on specific ideologies. If you review APGA’s manifesto, you will see that our guiding principle is progressivism—the same ideology that APC upholds.

“When you examine President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda alongside the manifestos of APGA and APC, one clear common thread emerges: our shared commitment to progressivism, aimed at advancing policies that improve the lives of Nigerians.

“As a political party, we are choosing to align with the President because we believe in the coalition framework that was established before 1999, which includes the principle of a rotational presidency—eight years for the North, followed by eight years for the South,” he said.
