The Senate of Bayero University Kano has sanctioned the expulsion of 171 students for falsifying their admission credentials.

The decision was reached during the institution’s 433rd Senate meeting held on March 4, 2026, after a probe by the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities.

In a statement released in the university’s weekly bulletin on Friday, the affected students were confirmed to have submitted forged documents during the admission process.

“The Senate of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), at its 433rd meeting held on March 4, 2026, has approved the expulsion of 171 students for falsifying their admission entry qualifications,” the statement said.

The university stated that the offence breaches Section 20.7, Category A (vii) of its General Examinations and Academic Regulations, which stipulates expulsion for such misconduct.

It added that the affected students span various departments and academic levels, noting that the move is part of ongoing efforts to sanitise its academic records.

In a related development, the Senate also approved the expulsion of Yusuf Muhammad Sani, a Civil Engineering student, over alleged involvement in the assault of invigilators during an examination.

The institution said the incident disrupted the examination process and contravened its student disciplinary regulations.

The management reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining academic integrity, warning that violations of its rules would continue to attract strict sanctions.

“The University stresses that any breach of its regulations will attract appropriate sanctions in line with established rules.

“This mass expulsion serves as a strong warning to current and prospective students that BUK operates a zero-tolerance policy on academic fraud and indiscipline,” the statement said.
