No fewer than 8,433 delegates are expected to participate in the 2026 national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), scheduled to hold at Eagle Square.
The delegates will be led by President Bola Tinubu, alongside 31 governors and members of the Federal Executive Council.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this during a meeting with journalists at Transcorp Hilton Abuja, where he unveiled plans and expectations for the convention slated for March 27 and 28.
Idris, who also serves as Co-Chairman of the convention’s Media and Publicity Committee, highlighted the party’s preparedness, logistics, and communication strategy ahead of the event. He urged committee members to work in unity to ensure effective messaging and a successful outing.
“A lot of sacrifice is expected from all, in line with the party’s vision for a united and disciplined approach to communicating to Nigerians,” he said.
He further stressed the need for the APC to uphold strong internal democratic values, noting that the convention represents a significant milestone in strengthening the party’s structures.
The party has already indicated it will adopt a consensus approach in selecting its national leadership. According to the Assistant Secretary for Media and Publicity, Mary Ikoku, decisions on elective positions during primaries may vary depending on local political dynamics.
Key stakeholders present at the briefing included the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo; the Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga; and Special Adviser on Public Communication and Orientation, Sunday Dare.
The convention is expected to produce new national executives who will steer the affairs of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, including overseeing primaries for presidential, governorship, National Assembly, and House of Assembly candidates.
