Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Saturday received political leaders, associates, and sympathisers at his residence in Abuja following the death of his mother, Umma El-Rufai.

Hajiya Umma El-Rufai reportedly died on Friday in Cairo after a period of illness.

The condolence visits came shortly after El-Rufai was granted temporary leave from the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), where he had been held since February over allegations of financial misconduct. He was released on compassionate grounds to enable him attend his mother’s funeral rites.

Among those who paid a condolence visit was former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, who expressed sympathy and solidarity with the bereaved family.

In a message shared on his X handle, Atiku said he led a delegation to console El-Rufai, describing the loss of a mother as deeply painful and irreplaceable. He noted that despite the circumstances, El-Rufai remained strong in faith and encouraged him to stay resolute.

Atiku also offered prayers for the repose of the deceased, asking that her soul be granted eternal rest in paradise.
