At least 68 traffic offenders were prosecuted on Saturday at Mobile Courts in Warri and Asaba, as well as at the Magistrate Court in Okwe, Delta State.

The prosecutions followed intensified traffic enforcement operations on major roads across the state by the Delta State Police Command, in collaboration with designated judges and magistrates of the Mobile Courts. The initiative is part of the state government’s efforts to curb the rising trend of traffic violations.

It also forms part of broader measures to enforce compliance with traffic laws and ensure the safety of residents throughout Delta State.

The information was contained in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, and copies were made available to journalists in Warri on Sunday.

The statement revealed that the offenders were arrested for a range of traffic violations.

Reported offences included seven individuals charged for unauthorized use of number plates, five for driving against traffic, 15 for operating vehicles without registration numbers, two for illegal use of sirens and revolving lights, 15 for obstructing roads, 13 for driving with covered number plates, and 11 for driving without valid driver’s licences.

The police spokesperson highlighted that vehicles with unregistered or concealed number plates are frequently used to commit crimes and evade security checks at checkpoints.

“All offenders were fined in line with the provisions of the Delta State Traffic Management Law and the National Road Traffic Regulations, underscoring the consequences of breaching traffic rules,” the statement partly read.

The command added that it is enhancing collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Delta State Traffic Management Agency to tackle traffic offences and improve public safety across the state.

The police explained that the partnership is designed to ensure coordinated enforcement, reduce traffic-related incidents, and strengthen security on Delta roads.

Motorists were urged to adhere to traffic regulations, ensure their vehicles are properly registered, and carry valid driver’s licences at all times.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to a zero-tolerance approach to traffic violations, emphasizing that strict measures will continue to be enforced to protect lives and maintain order on the state’s roads.
