POLICE MARK POLICE DAY WITH SANITATION EXERCISE IN ABUJA

Police officers in Abuja on Monday carried out a street sanitation exercise as part of activities to commemorate Police Day, cleaning parts of the Area One Motor Park and adjoining streets in a bid to strengthen community relations.
The exercise, which extended from the motor park to a nearby market, saw officers sweeping streets, clearing refuse, and engaging with residents. In a show of goodwill, some officers assisted locals with washing clothes, while the Commissioner of Police operated a trader’s sewing machine—gestures that drew applause from members of the community.
The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, said the outreach formed part of programmes approved by the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police to promote closer ties with civilians.

Sanusi noted that the initiative was designed to highlight the importance of environmental cleanliness while showcasing a more approachable and service-oriented side of the police.
“Simply acceptability—we have been accepted by them, they love us, and that’s why they are cheering us up. We are very happy and will reciprocate by giving them better services as we continue,” he said.
A resident, Saliu Aliyu, commended the effort, describing it as a positive step toward improving police-public relations. He added that such initiatives could encourage collaboration between citizens and security agencies in tackling crime.
The sanitation drive is one of several activities lined up by the Nigeria Police to mark this year’s Police Day, with a focus on community engagement and rebuilding public trust.
