Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested two individuals in separate cases involving alleged fraud and currency mutilation.

In the first case, the Benin Zonal Directorate arrested Osagie Etinosa for allegedly defrauding a football hopeful of N11 million.

According to the commission, the suspect posed as a football agent on Instagram under the handle @officialking_etto, claiming to facilitate trials and recruitment for players in foreign clubs. He allegedly collected N11 million from a victim, Samuel Beke Ohazuruike, with promises of securing trials in Romanian and Bulgarian clubs, which never materialised.

The EFCC said efforts by the victim to recover the funds were unsuccessful, adding that the suspect will soon be arraigned in court.

In a separate development, the Maiduguri Zonal Directorate arrested Fatima Muhammed over alleged Naira mutilation.

The commission said the arrest followed a viral video on TikTok showing the suspect using an N500 note to clean mucus from her nose. Operatives subsequently traced and apprehended her in Maiduguri.

The EFCC noted that Muhammed is currently under investigation and will be charged to court upon conclusion of the process.

The anti-graft agency reiterated its commitment to tackling financial crimes and enforcing laws against offences such as fraud and abuse of the national currency.
