The Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the Nigeria Police Force over the unsealing of the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, alleging partisan interference and a breach of due process.

In a statement issued on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the faction said it would challenge the development in court, insisting that the police action was unlawful.

The PDP has been engulfed in a prolonged internal crisis that escalated on November 18 at its national headquarters, Wadata Plaza in Abuja, when rival factions clashed. One side was led by Turaki, SAN, and backed by Governors Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed, while the opposing faction aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Following months of legal battles, the Court of Appeal ruled on March 9 in favour of the Wike-backed faction, nullifying the November 16 Ibadan convention that had been endorsed by the rival group.

On Saturday, the Wike-aligned faction announced that the police had unsealed both Wadata Plaza and the Legacy House national offices of the party in Abuja, describing the action as lawful and in line with the rule of law.

However, the Turaki-led faction strongly rejected the move, calling it “shameful” and accusing the police of partisan conduct and violation of a pending court process.

The faction alleged that despite being aware of an ongoing appeal, the police proceeded with actions that could compromise judicial proceedings, warning that such steps may render future court decisions ineffective.

It further claimed that security agencies had consistently acted in favour of the opposing faction, expressing disappointment that the situation had not improved under the current leadership of the Inspector General of Police.

While urging members to remain peaceful and law-abiding, the faction vowed to pursue legal means to defend what it described as the rights of genuine party members.

Despite the tensions, the group expressed optimism that the crisis would eventually be resolved in its favour, insisting that democratic principles would ultimately prevail.
