The reports from the spokesperson of our great party, alleging plans by the government and its agents to revoke the licence of Rainbow Event Centre solely for hosting the African Democratic Congress (ADC) convention scheduled for Tuesday, April 14, 2026, represent a shameful and reckless abuse of public office.

It must be stated clearly that pressuring a private venue owner to deny a legally registered opposition party access to its facility is neither governance nor legitimate political action. Rather, it reflects the conduct of a system that has lost public trust and is resorting to coercion in place of persuasion.

The ADC has fulfilled all contractual obligations, paid all required fees, and committed no breach of law. Its only “offence” is its continued organisation, expansion, and preparation to challenge the current government in the 2027 elections.

Such actions reflect a broader pattern in which democratic spaces are gradually undermined through targeted pressure on opposition groups, restrictions on free assembly, and attempts to stifle political participation. The international community and Nigeria’s democratic partners are urged to take note of these developments.

The ADC remains resolute and undeterred. It will not be intimidated or silenced, nor will it yield to any form of political pressure.

The convention will proceed as planned, the ADC will continue to grow, and Nigeria’s democratic process will ultimately prevail.
