NIGERIA MOURNS HEROES AS FALLEN TROOPS ARE LAID TO REST

In a deeply solemn and emotional ceremony held on Wednesday, 15 April 2026, the nation laid to rest Late Brigadier General Omo Braimah, Captain Ismail, and other brave soldiers who lost their lives in active service.
The burial took place at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri, Borno State, and was marked by grief, honour, and reflection as families, colleagues, and senior government and military officials gathered to pay their last respects.
The fallen officers were honoured with full military rites in recognition of their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to defending the country. Their deaths were described as a painful reminder of the daily risks faced by members of the Armed Forces in protecting Nigeria’s peace and unity.
Present at the ceremony were Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, and other top military officers, all of whom paid tribute to the deceased.
In their remarks, the dignitaries described the soldiers as true patriots who stood firm in the face of danger and gave their lives so others could live in safety. They noted that their bravery and sense of duty would continue to inspire future generations and remain part of the nation’s proud military history.
Prayers were offered for the repose of their souls, while service citations were read to their families in recognition of their sacrifice. The emotional weight of the occasion highlighted the human cost of national security efforts, even as their legacy was celebrated with pride and respect.
As the country mourns, it is reminded that the peace and stability enjoyed today come at great sacrifice, borne by those who placed national duty above personal safety.
