A 24-year-old Bwari resident, Mr Pam Joshua, has been remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre after his arrest for sharing a misleading video falsely claiming a Boko Haram attack in the Federal Capital Territory.
According to reports, Pam, a TikTok user, allegedly created a gunshot sound effect and overlaid it on footage from a location within the FCT, presenting it as an ongoing terrorist attack on residents.
Following his arrest, he admitted to the offence, explaining that his intention was to boost his social media following.
Providing an update on Tuesday, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, confirmed that the suspect had been arraigned before a competent court on charges of injurious falsehood and breach of public peace.
He added that Pam has been remanded in custody at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending trial.
The police boss cautioned against spreading false or unverified information capable of inciting panic, describing such actions as criminal and detrimental to ongoing security efforts in the FCT.
He urged content creators and the general public to always verify security-related information with the police or relevant authorities before sharing.
Sanusi also reassured residents that Abuja remains safe, noting that there is currently no indication of any security threat in the capital.
