Veteran Nollywood actor Kola Oyewo has revealed that he is battling prostate enlargement.
He made the disclosure during a visit by actor Kunle Afod to his home.
The 80-year-old actor explained that his recent absence from the screen is due to the health condition, which has limited his ability to take on certain acting roles.
Recounting how it began, Oyewo said he was diagnosed after experiencing symptoms such as sleepless nights and frequent urination.
“Before now, I could travel from one location to another and play any role, but the illness has slowed me down. I can no longer take certain roles, except minor ones.
“I thank God because I am getting better now. No one goes through some illnesses and comes out exactly the same, but I remain grateful,” he said.
“There are many people my age who are stronger than I am, but I still thank God for preserving my life. I even drove myself to the hospital after suffering sleepless nights, frequent urination, and sometimes urinating on myself before reaching the toilet. After several tests, I was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate,” he added.
The MEDIA reports that Oyewo joined the film industry in 1964 and rose to prominence with productions such as The Gods Are Not to Blame and Sango.
He also served as a lecturer at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, from 1996 until his retirement in 2011.
