Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has said that Nigeria is in capable hands under President Bola Tinubu, adding that the president deserves re-election to sustain ongoing reforms and development initiatives.
Fubara made the call on Thursday while officially opening the meeting of the Southern Traditional Rulers Council in Port Harcourt, where monarchs from the 17 southern states gathered to discuss unity, security, and economic development.

The governor stated that the current administration is recording significant progress in revitalizing the economy and providing key infrastructure, including coastal road projects, despite ongoing challenges.
He emphasized the importance of continuity in leadership, noting that “it is not ideal to change the goalposts in the middle of the game.”
Governor Fubara called on stakeholders across the region to collaborate in pursuit of common goals, stressing that the South must stay united to ensure sustainable development.
He also noted that the convergence of traditional rulers highlighted Rivers State’s peaceful atmosphere and its capacity to host major national events.

Earlier, the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, who serves as chairman of the Southern Traditional Rulers Council, said the meeting was called to promote peace and reinforce unity across the region.
He observed that the council reflects Nigeria’s diversity, noting that more than 400 dialects are spoken across the southern states, and described the gathering as a clear expression of unity in diversity.
He explained that the Port Harcourt meeting is the fourth in the series, following previous sessions in Imo, Ogun, and Lagos states.
According to him, the forum offers traditional rulers a platform to deliberate on shared values and interests that unite their people.
The monarch further stated that the council would also consider ways to support the current administration in tackling security and economic challenges, stressing that while participation is voluntary, it is vital for repositioning both the region and the nation.
The meeting brings together prominent traditional rulers from the South-South, South-East, and South-West, including the council’s co-chairman, the Obi of Obinugwu, Eze Cletus Illomuanya, and the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.
