The Kwankwasiyya Movement has urged the Supreme Court of Nigeria to expedite its ruling in the ongoing case involving the African Democratic Congress (African Democratic Congress), warning that any delay could hinder the party’s full participation in the country’s democratic process.
In a statement released on Friday by its spokesperson, Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed, the group expressed confidence in the independence and integrity of the apex court, while emphasising the need for a swift resolution due to the urgency of the matter.
“The Kwankwasiyya Movement wishes to address members of the African Democratic Congress, our supporters, and all Nigerians regarding the ongoing proceedings before the Supreme Court of Nigeria,” the statement read.
“While we remain confident in the integrity, independence, and sense of responsibility of the Supreme Court, we find it important to respectfully draw attention to the urgency of this matter,” the statement said.
The group observed that the situation is placing significant pressure on the party, as electoral processes operate within strict timelines that must be observed.
“As it stands, the current situation has placed our party in a race against time,” it added.
“The absence of a clear and final determination inevitably limits the party’s ability to fully organise, mobilise, and participate effectively in the democratic space.”
The movement therefore urged the court to consider not only the legal issues involved but also the time-sensitive nature of the case, particularly its implications for democratic participation and political stability.
“It is our hope that the Supreme Court will take into account not only the legal merits of the case but also the urgency of the issues involved,” Mohammed said.
According to the statement, the Supreme Court has consistently demonstrated that justice must not only be fair but also delivered promptly, especially in cases with broader national implications.
“The Court has shown that justice, to be truly meaningful, must be both fair and timely, particularly in matters that directly affect democratic participation and national stability,” the statement added.
The Kwankwasiyya Movement expressed confidence that the court would act in a way that safeguards both the judiciary and Nigeria’s multi-party democracy.
“We are confident that the Supreme Court, in exercising its constitutional mandate, will act in a manner that preserves both the integrity of the judiciary and the vitality of Nigeria’s multiparty democracy,” it stated.
The group also called on its members and supporters to remain calm, united, and patient as the legal process unfolds.
“To our members and supporters, we urge patience, unity, and continued commitment to lawful and democratic engagement. This moment calls for resolve and confidence in the institutions that underpin our democracy,” the statement added.
It reaffirmed its confidence that justice would be delivered fairly and without delay.
“The Kwankwasiyya Movement remains confident that justice will prevail in a timely and fair manner, in the best interest of Nigeria,” the statement concluded.
