Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has commended two pupils from Kwara State for their outstanding performance at an international spelling bee competition held in Harare, where they helped Nigeria secure a silver medal.
The pupils, Yusuf Abdurrahman Oreoluwa and Yusuf Maryam of Ar-Raheem International College, Ilorin, represented Nigeria alongside Adeolu Oluwadamilola Oreofe from Ekiti State at the competition.
In a statement shared via his Facebook page on Friday, AbdulRazaq praised the students for their academic excellence and for representing both the state and the country with distinction.
“I heartily congratulate two Kwara pupils, Yusuf Abdurrahman Oreoluwa and Yusuf Maryam — on their excellent performance at a spelling bee competition in Harare, Zimbabwe,” the governor said.
He added that their achievement has earned them qualification to represent Nigeria at a forthcoming global competition scheduled to take place in China in the coming months.
Describing the feat as a significant milestone, the governor lauded the pupils for being worthy ambassadors and contributing to Kwara’s growing reputation in academic excellence.
“This is clearly something to celebrate. I congratulate the pupils, their parents, and Ar-Raheem College for this milestone,” he said.
AbdulRazaq also linked the success to his administration’s continued investment in education, noting that quality and accessible education remains central to sustainable development.
“These feats align with our unrelenting investments in qualitative and accessible education, which is the foundation for any enduring civilisation,” he added.
The spelling bee competition, which attracted participants from multiple countries, tests students’ proficiency in English vocabulary, pronunciation, and spelling through a series of competitive rounds.
