APC WAIVES SCREENING FOR TINUBU AHEAD OF 2027 PRIMARIES

The All Progressives Congress has waived the screening requirement for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of its 2027 presidential primaries, declaring him duly cleared in line with the party’s constitution and internal procedures.
The decision was taken by the party’s National Working Committee at its 188th meeting held on Wednesday at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.
In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party said the move was backed by provisions of its constitution, which empower the NWC to organise and supervise primaries and grant waivers when necessary.
According to the statement, Tinubu has been deemed duly screened, eliminating the need for him to appear before a screening panel ahead of the primary elections.
The party explained that the decision was informed by the president’s status as the incumbent leader of the APC and his prior clearance during the 2022 presidential primaries.
It added that subjecting him to another screening process would be redundant, noting that he has also received widespread endorsement from key stakeholders within the party.
These include the Progressive Governors Forum, members of the National Assembly, and other party organs, particularly during the APC National Summit held in May 2025.
The APC had earlier commenced the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms on April 28, with the process scheduled to close on May 6, while screening of other aspirants is expected to begin on May 8.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, while governorship and state assembly elections will hold on February 6.
INEC also fixed April 23 to May 30, 2026, for party primaries and resolution of disputes, with campaigns set to commence in August and September for presidential and governorship elections, respectively.
