A former chairman of Kano Municipal Council, Faizu Alfindiki, has said that former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, does not have the political influence to determine presidential election outcomes in Kano State.

Alfindiki made the remarks on Tuesday in Kano while speaking to APC social media influencers, where he dismissed suggestions that Kwankwaso could deliver significant votes in the 2027 elections.

He also downplayed concerns over a possible political alliance between Kwankwaso and Labour Party’s Peter Obi, saying it should not unsettle the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Kwankwaso cannot deliver Kano votes the way people often claim. Voting patterns in the state have always shown that individual popularity, not political structures, determines presidential results,” he said.

Alfindiki argued that former President Muhammadu Buhari repeatedly secured strong results in Kano based on personal appeal, even when Kwankwaso or his allies were in power.

He recalled that in the 2003 election, Buhari polled about 1.6 million votes in Kano, adding that Kwankwaso, then governor, was unable to swing the state in favour of President Olusegun Obasanjo.

He said a similar trend continued in later elections, insisting Buhari consistently maintained strong support in the state regardless of who controlled the government.

Alfindiki further referenced the 2019 election, claiming Buhari won over 1.4 million votes in Kano while Kwankwaso-backed candidates lost key legislative contests.

On the 2023 presidential election, he argued that Kwankwaso’s performance in his home state did not reflect the level of influence often attributed to him, noting that he scored less than one million votes.

He also dismissed claims that Kwankwaso delivered millions of votes in 2015, describing such assertions as exaggerated.

While acknowledging Kwankwaso’s relevance in Kano politics, Alfindiki maintained that historical election results do not support claims of dominance over presidential voting in the state.

He expressed confidence that the APC remains strong in Kano and across the northern region, insisting the party is not threatened by emerging political alliances ahead of 2027.
