The All Progressives Congress in Oyo State on Saturday condemned the Friday attacks by suspected bandits on residents of some communities in Oriire Local Government Area of the state, urging Governor Seyi Makinde to take urgent steps towards ensuring the safety of lives and property.
APC, in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, in Ibadan, sympathised with the families of the two slain residents and called on the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted pupils and Mrs. Folawe Alamu from their captors.
Gunmen reportedly operating on motorcycles attacked Yawota and Ahoro Esinele communities simultaneously at about 9 a.m. on Friday.
Two persons were reportedly killed during the attacks, while an unspecified number of schoolchildren and a headteacher identified as Mrs. Alamu were abducted.
Sadare said, “The Friday lethal attacks on the people of Oriire Local Government Area of the state have further exposed the ineptitude of the concerned authorities, especially the administration of Governor Makinde.
“For quite some time, some local government areas in the state have witnessed violent attacks in the hands of gunmen and bandits who always killed, maimed and abducted hapless citizens, particularly in Oriire, Ibarapa North, Oluyole, Itesiwaju, Ido, and some other local government areas whenever they struck.
“The saddening part of the whole thing is that Governor Makinde, who is the Chief Security Officer of the state, was busy gallivanting on the streets of Ibadan – the state capital at the time of the Friday attacks in the name of Street Credibility for the purpose of selfish politicking.
“On the entourage of Governor Makinde were security agents and Amotekun Corps who were supposed to have been deployed to the nooks and crannies of the state to do their normal work.
“At this juncture, the good people of the state must rise up to ask questions; where are the security surveillance aircraft for which the governor removed billions of naira from the state treasury to purchase last year? Where are the impacts of the security votes which the governor receives every month from the Federal Government? Why does Makinde find it extremely difficult to work with relevant stakeholders to address insecurity in the state?
“It is time Governor Makinde was told that he should get serious with the business of governing the state, as he has to disembark from the high horse of deceit as his luck in the field of politics terminates on May 29, 2027.”
