MURDER: BUHARI PROMISES JUSTICE FOR OMOBOLANLE RAHEEM
The “heinous and senseless” shooting death of Omobolanle Raheem, a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), by a police officer on Christmas Day has been condemned by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Buhari reaffirmed his promise to uphold the law.
The President expressed his astonishment and sadness after learning of the murder in a statement released on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu.
He instructed the police to take “the harshest possible measures” against the offenders who were already being detained.
The incident, according to President Buhari, serves as a stark reminder of the persistent threat posed by improper handling of weapons and a wake-up call to law enforcement agencies, including the police, to ensure the full implementation of reforms put in place by the administration on the topic of improper handling of weapons as well as the protection of citizens’ rights.
He said, āIn this hour of grief, the nation stands in solidarity with the bereaved family and the NBA.
āI assure that justice will be done in this case.ā
