LAGOS POLICE ARREST 18-YEAR-OLD IN POSSESSION OF FIREARM, STOLEN PHONES
An 18-year-old man was apprehended by Lagos Police on Monday after they found him in possession of a firearm and twoĀ stolen mobile phones.
A patrol squad from the Layeni Police Division stopped the alleged man’s motorcycle, according to Lagos Police spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who tweeted the information.Ā Ā When he was searched, the officersĀ discovered two stolen phones and a locally-made firearm.
The twitter post reads: “A patrol team from Layeni Division stopped this eighteen-year old young man while riding on a motorcycle.
“He was searched and this locally fabricated firearm and two stolen phones were found on him.
“One less criminal on the streets. Many more to be taken off.”
In a video that was attached to the post, the accused individual identified himself as a mechanic and claimed to be a member of a gang of three. He claims that one of the other two gave him the gun when he asked for assistance for 500 naira to buy food.
According to him, it is his first time of handling a gun, confessing that they use the gun for operations around Second Rainbow area.
“They told me they have a gun when I went to them yesterday to beg for 500 naira so I could eat.
“They gave me the weapon and asked me to transport them to the Second Rainbow area on a motorcycle.”
“I don’t know how to fire a gun, but the two of them do.”
