JUST IN: AZMAN, MAX AIR, TACO AIR SET TO DEPART SUDAN WITH REMAINING NIGERIAN EVACUEES (VIDEO)
In on ongoing evacuation exercise of stranded Nigerians in troubled Sudan, three airlines namely; Azman Air, Max Air and Taco Aviation are set to depart Sudan shortly with more Nigerian evacuees.
From the Aswan Border Town in Egypt, Azman Air and Max Air will airlift about 700 Nigerians while almost 300 will be airlifted from Port Sudan, in Sudan. The Azman and Max Air flights will totally evacuate all Nigerians within the borders of Egypt who had fled the fighting in Sudan.
In a footage made available by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), a first set of 125 female evacuees had already boarded the Taco Airline plane in Port Sudan.
The first batch of Nigerian evacuees arrived from the troubled Sudan on Wednesday night.
Totalling 376, they arrived in two flights at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja; late on Wednesday night. While an aeroplane operated by Air Peace landed at 11.35pm, the Nigerian Navy C-130 jet touched down at 11.44pm.
While recieving the evacuees at the Airport, the Director migration, National Commission for Refugees, Migrant and Internally Displaced Displaced Persons, Mrs. Catherine Udida said 94 evacuees were flown in by the naval plane C130, while Air Peace had evacuated 282 people.
The Chairman of NIDCOM; Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa said it was a huge relief to receive the returnees, bearing in mind what they went through in Sudan.
