FIRST CONTAINER FREIGHT TRAIN OF LAGOS-IBADAN RAILWAY TAKES OFF FROM APAPA PORT
From Apapa Port in Lagos, Nigeria, the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) launched the first container goods train on the Lagos-Ibadan railway.
A statement on the CCECC website states that the container arrived in Ibadan on Thursday, carrying 40-foot containers.
“It departed from Apapa Port and carried a total of 30 40-foot containers, arriving at Ibadan station in just two and a half hours,” it read.
‘This train is the first container freight train after the cement freight train started operating on July 4th’”.
In order to improve the railway transportation network behind Lagos Port, the Nigerian Railway Corporation intends to operate one pair of container trains each day and progressively expand the number of trains as demand develops.
