NIGERIAN NAVY THWARTS MASSIVE PETROLEUM SIPHONING OPERATION IN LAGOS

In cooperation with the Maritime Component of Operation AWATSE, the Nigerian Navy Ship NNS BEECROFT was able to intercept large amounts of petroleum products that had been syphoned between Atlas Cove and Ijegun in Lagos.

At a press conference in Lagos, Commodore Kolawole Oguntuga, Commander NNS BEECROFT, disclosed this development.

Commodore Oguntuga described in detail how, at approximately 11:45 a.m. the previous day, the NNS BEECROFT patrol team discovered two compromised locations along the NNPCL pipeline, which connects Atlas Cove to Ijegun in Lagos State. The patrol team had been responding quickly to credible human intelligence.

Saboteurs were connecting hoses and pumping devices to these compromised sites, which allowed them to syphon off large amounts of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from the pipeline.

He claims that this illegal conduct not only jeopardizes national security but also limits the supply of this essential item, which is the backbone of the country’s economy.

Under his direction, the Naval patrol crew has proven once again to be steadfast in its dedication to stopping pipeline damage, as Commander NNS BEECROFT emphasized.

He stated that improving operational efficiency has been made possible by the application of technology and human intelligence (HUMINT).

Commodore Oguntuga stressed that the admirable activities of the Naval team not only protect the supply of petroleum products and the nation’s infrastructure but also avert the possibility of catastrophic fires, which might have disastrous effects on people and property.

He restated that this discovery is more evidence of the Nigerian Navy’s unwavering dedication to protecting Nigeria’s maritime domain and promoting economic growth, under the direction of Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, the Chief of Naval Staff.

The NNPCL has been swiftly alerted of the compromised points, and immediate repairs have been initiated to avert any additional losses.
