
LASG VISITS PARENTS OF STUDENT ALLEGEDLY FLOGGED TO DEATH BY TEACHER
On Monday, the Lagos State government team led by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, paid a condolence visit to commiserate with the parents of David Babadipo, an SS1 student of Araromi Ilogbo Senior Secondary School, Oko-Afo, Badagry, who was allegedly flogged to death by his teacher last Thursday.
During the visit, the commissioner conveyed his sorrow for the passing of the bright and talented 16-year-old student and reassured his parents that the ministry will assist and work with the police to determine the cause of their son’s death.
According to a statement provided to reporters by Mr. Ganiu Lawal, the head of the ministry’s public affairs unit, the team also visited the four separate schools within the premises and spoke with the teachers, who were traumatized by the tragic event and the violent protest that followed it the next day.
The commissioner was accompanied on the visit by the Chairman of Olorunda Local Council Development Area, Mr. Samson Olatunde; the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Abayomi Abolaji; the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary Education District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye and the Commissioner IV in the Lagos State Teaching Service Commission, Mrs. Idowu Abimbola.
