VIDEO: SANWO-OLU INSPECTS IJORA, OBALENDE UNDER-BRIDGES, ORDERS ILLEGAL OCCUPANTS TO LEAVE
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, alongside his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, among other state officials, on Sunday, inspected the ongoing cleanup at Obalende under-bridge and Ijora Causeway under-bridge.
The Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Jubril Gawat, disclosed this in posts on his X handle on Sunday.
He wrote, “Governor of Lagos State, Mr #jidesanwoolu, today at the Obalende Under-bridge, which is undergoing extensive cleanup by the Ministry of Environment and the Special Taskforce. “Mr Governor is on an inspection to the site, to see the level of work done.
“Governor of Lagos State, Mr #jidesanwoolu, reading the riot act to the occupants at the Ijora Under-bridge, which is also undergoing extensive cleanup by the Ministry of Environment and the Special Taskforce.
“Mr Governor says there will be different kinds of recreational activities created under the bridge and that nobody will be allowed to sleep or live under the bridges anymore.”
According to the Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, other officials who accompanied the governor on the inspection include the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab; the Commissioner for Transportation, Seun Osiyemi; and other stakeholders.
Earlier on Saturday, it was reported that the Lagos State Government has commenced the clean-up of shanties occupied by squatters under the Obalende Bridge in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area of the state.
In a similar development, after a five-day quit notice, the government destroyed and cleared illegal shanties occupied by squatters under the the Ijora Bridge and announced its plan to convert the area to a recreational space.
